My Random Blogging Therapy
What a whirlwind weekend. I haven't been home yet, I drove straight to work. I need to hit up the bank and then pay my rent at lunchtime. Most Tongan individuals know and are close to their 2nd cousins. I don't know or am close to any of them which I'm told is rare although this reunion was nice and made me feel a part of my huge extended family. My cousin Taia is my dad's sister's daughter. Her dad is Tongan. She told me that although she isn't close to any, she at least knows ALL her 2nd cousins on her dad's side.
I am definitely signing with Keller Williams. I looove their office and the recruiter volunteered to be my mentor and GUARANTEED if I follow his plan I'll make $100,000 at minimum. I laughed when he said that but then he said he was willing to put up his own money if it didn't happen AND MENTOR me. I told him I was taking him up on that offer. I also still like the legislative analyst position. It starts at 56,000 which is PERFECT!!! Along with Keller Williams it is what I plan to do.
I also had a phone interview with Delta Airlines for their part time customer service position. It is from your home and extremely flexible which I love, ALTHOUGH the training IS NOT flexible. I have no idea if I'll get it or not. I had no clues to whether my answers were good or bad. I just kept thinking this is a stupid customer service job that just requires me to know the system and be friendly. SERIOUSLY, the 3rd degree was such an overkill. Just the application was OVERKILL.
Friday at our Meet and Greet I was the FIRST ONE THERE who wasn't from Tonga's line who was hosting the entire reunion. My grandpa is the oldest and his first name is Mateaki. He wanted ALL of his kids to change their last names to Mateaki which is what they did. He had 2 younger brothers Piliote and Tonga and then the youngest was his sister Loloma.
I felt horrible because they had sandwiches, a chocolate fountain with fruit, candy, pound cake, pretzels, marshmallows AND a cotton candy machine plus cake and several pies. 2 hours AFTER we "started" people FINALLY began to show up, mainly - MY FAMILY as in my first cousins, their kids and my brother. Davey's dad passed away days before our reunion. We were going to have a dance but instead we had the meet and greet out of respect for him.
I met Terrell who is Tonga's grandson who hasn't had any contact with his Tongan heritage his entire life. Davey and his father Tomasi who passed away talked to him several times on the phone and convinced him to attend our reunion all the way from Georgia. We were dying when Davey told us he had looked for Terrell before but he was told his name was Daryl.
Our BBQ was nice and well-attended. I loved Finau's raw fish and Celeste's chicken salad. I also met up with 2 cousins who I knew when I was12. I never really knew then they were my cousins. It was fun to run into people I haven't seen in over 20 years. Cool and weird at the same time. I'm glad Davey threw this together. It never would've happened otherwise.
I had planned on attending Monument 19th again Sunday but I was exhausted. Sunday night we had to sing at Tomasi's apo so I sat around my mother's house when my dad's cousin Dan and his wife Mayonne came over to visit. They attended BYU-Hawaii with my parents when it was Church College of Hawaii. They are awesome and I didn't want to leave because they are visiting from Hawaii BUT I had to go to the wake since I am missing his funeral, lunch AND the family meeting today because I'm back here at work in the Dairyland. It took me OVER 45 minutes to find the stake center. I was ready to give up. I found another chapel on the street I was looking for that didn't have any cars so I kept thinking they had the wrong address. When I finally reminded myself this is Utah I found the Stake Center further down the same street.
Lunchtime!!!
