17 For behold, the Lord had blessed them so long with the riches of the world that they had not been stirred up to anger, to wars, nor to bloodshed; therefore they began to set their hearts upon their riches; yea, they began to seek to get gain that they might be lifted up one above another; therefore they began to commit secret murders, and to rob and to plunder, that they might get gain.
25 Now behold, it is these secret oaths and covenants which Alma commanded his son should not go forth unto the world, lest they should be a means of bringing down the people unto destruction.
26 Now behold, those secret oaths and covenants did not come forth unto Gadianton from the records which were delivered unto Helaman; but behold, they were put into the heart of Gadianton by that same being who did entice our first parents to partake of the forbidden fruit—
There must be opposition in all things and it always fascinates me that the truly wicked revere covenants just as much as we do. They only amplify how incredible covenants are. They represent the strongest form of commitment anyone can have. What makes righteous covenants so strong is the terms are set by God.
There was a missionary speech circulating my mission called the covenant-making testifying missionary. It was extremely motivational and had me fired up HOWEVER it suggested we covenant with the Lord to bring about our missions to bring people to Christ through baptism. The flaw of the plan was that it suggested we set the terms. We DO NOT set the terms of the Lord's covenants.
The covenants available to us are so beautiful and amazing. The most glorious of these and the most powerful and fulfilling is eternal marriage which is why I can't wait to find someone I can raise my family with and grow and fight for eternity with. My life is so amazing now. I can't wait for that. I can't wait to have a family. I love this gospel so much and I am so grateful for the beautiful perfect plan of progression and happiness we are all partaking in on the earth today. There is so much goodness and love.
Yesterday my boss gave us all a small box of VEEERY good fresh almond candy made by some company out of Brigham City. Impressive and delicious. She also gave us all personalized cards. She told me she knew my plans didn't include Stevens-Henager College and she wished me the best for my future.
I am so excited for her to see us all at her dinner tonight. The memory book came out perfectly. I made sure EVERYONE who works there now signed her book and it is filled with pictures of EVERYONE along with candid shots taken throughout the campus. I hope she is happy with what we did.
I never expected to work there after she left but someone I don't have the history of experiences with will be a lot easier to leave. Sharla supported me when I wanted to throw a Book Fair, when I wanted to start CVLA and EVERY time I wanted to attend some library conference or even business leadership conference. She supported me when I wanted to get my MBA, get my real estate license. ANY time I've wanted personal development she has given me the additional time off. When I started working for the college I wanted every Friday off. She agreed to this too and I have enjoyed an amazing schedule for over 4 years. I love being a librarian. It is fulfilling and challenging in a variety of ways. Along with this it still lets me work with people. I love working with people but I could never touch them or help them personally like anyone in the medical field.
I am also excited to meet the new boss too and to meet someone from our national American Library Association Intellectual Freedom Committee. It is truly a treat and I'm excited very much about that. It is such a blessing to me that no one else offered to pick her up and take her to her hotel. I'm so excited to do this and to spend time with her.
Eli actually signed our memory book and he seems fine with all parts of the celebration we planned for her. Sharla has touched so many lives. What I learned from her personally is how much experience can make a difference in the workplace. I haven't ever felt that because I've always have the opinion I can do things better than anyone else. She always came up with ideas and solutions that made sense.
I will miss her so much. I want our dinner to be appropriate for the amazing person she is and the wonderful director she has been to all of us.
