My Random Blogging Therapy
My dentist changed my appointment to 11:40 tomorrow. I'm coming in the morning but then Judy's working for me the rest of the day. I DO NOT want to see people when I'm sure I won't be able to feel half of my face again. I FINALLY get to use some of my sick hours.
Last night we had our RS presidency meeting but I was in the middle of cooking my lunch (Chop Chae!!!) for today and if I stopped and went to my meeting I wouldn't be able to finish until after 2 or 3am. Jodi finishes work at 9:30 so we meet at 9:45 but don't get out of there until after midnight. It isn't something I can do when I need to complete stuff for the next day.
3 Nephi 30
1 Hearken, O ye Gentiles, and hear the words of Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, which he hath commanded me that I should speak concerning you, for, behold he commandeth me that I should write, saying:
2 Turn, all ye Gentiles, from your wicked ways; and repent of your evil doings, of your lyings and deceivings, and of your whoredoms, and of your secret abominations, and your idolatries, and of your murders, and your priestcrafts, and your envyings, and your strifes, and from all your wickedness and abominations, and come unto me, and be baptized in my name, that ye may receive a remission of your sins, and be filled with the Holy Ghost, that ye may be numbered with my people who are of the house of Israel.
So I'm not a gentile since I'm from the house of Israel ALTHOUGH I don't think that gives me a free pass to NOT turn from any "wicked ways" or the need to repent from "evil doings". I was surprised when I read this when my alarm went off that it was only 2 verses. 4 Nephi is just 1 chapter. Simply reading something good every day improves us however incremental that change may be. While of course there are many divine blessings through reading our scriptures, it is also common sense. Whatever we think about will affect us. Reading lets us focus our thoughts on whatever we select. Reading our scriptures we've been told over and over again will bring us closer to our Savior-DUH!!! It's sort of like taking the divine out of prayer. Whatever we focus on and consciously think about will automatically prime us to fulfill that. Goals are the same thing. If we have a goal and review it constantly, strive for it and change things that aren't working, we will be constantly considering if any actions we take will move us to fulfilling those goals.
We Are Daughters of Our Heavenly Father - Elaine S. Dalton
In every country and on every continent, I have met confident, articulate young women, filled with light, refined by hard work and trial, possessing pure and simple faith. They are virtuous. They are covenant keepers who “stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places.”2 They know who they are and that they have a significant role to play in building the kingdom of God.
As daughters of God we are each unique and different in our circumstances and experiences. And yet our part matters—because we matter. Our daily contributions of nurturing, teaching, and caring for others may seem mundane, diminished, difficult, and demeaning at times, and yet as we remember that first line in the Young Women theme—“We are daughters of our Heavenly Father, who loves us”—it will make all the difference in our relationships and our responses.
In a morally desensitizing world, young women need women and men to “stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places.” Never before has this been more important than now. Young women need mothers and mentors who exemplify virtuous womanhood. Mothers, your relationship with your daughter is of paramount importance, and so is your example. How you love and honor her father, his priesthood, and his divine role will be reflected and perhaps amplified in your daughter’s attitudes and behavior.
“By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. …
“We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God.”6
In the decadent society of Mormon’s time, he lamented that the women were robbed of that which was most dear and precious above all—their virtue and chastity.7
Again I renew the call for a return to virtue. Virtue is the strength and power of daughters of God. What would the world be like if virtue—a pattern of thought and behavior based on high moral standards, including chastity8—were reinstated in our society as a most highly prized value? If immorality, pornography, and abuse decreased, would there be fewer broken marriages, broken lives, and broken hearts? Would media ennoble and enable rather than objectify and degrade God’s precious daughters? If all humanity really understood the importance of the statement “We are daughters of our Heavenly Father,” how would women be regarded and treated?
I need to read this anytime I'm tempted to have a pity-party. I am so blessed simply by my membership in this beautiful organization our father in heaven has seen fit to bless us with. What a rare and precious gift this gospel is in my life. I belong to a church that seeks to make me as great as possible.
