My Random Blogging Therapy
I am picking up Sister Newcomer this morning so she can attend church with me today. I told her I wouldn't if she was planning on attending gospel principles... she said she was so I just laughed at her and told her I could sacrifice a Sunday. I'm "treating" them to Elements or rather I planned to do that. When they told me they eat there free I was happy because that means I just pay for my meal. They don't like Elements. I told them it's the best restaurant in Cache Valley and that they are crazy. I just don't think the missionaries value it because they get it for free.
I think I can convert them. The Lord is definitely hastening his work. Sister Sonasi is difficult to understand because of her Tongan accent BUUUT she has the mantle and along with sister Newcomer is THE missionary our father and heaven has assigned to this area AND to teach these amazing people.
I loooved sharing with Jenny and Scott how the spirit feels like. They wear rings and I assumed they were married when I told them how the spirit is something deeply felt just like being in love. They told me they've had a long-distance relationship for 4 years and that this is actually the first time they've been together. Funny, yes they'll have to get married in order to get baptized and live the law of chastity. When they told me they weren't married I told them we could help them take care of that.
Scott first said he believes in a Supreme being although he's not sure what that is exactly. Jenny loves to bake cookies but she said she wants to learn how to bake cinnamon rolls. PERFECT!!! One of the few things I can bake really well and something I used to make ALL the time!!! I told her I'd bring her some Saturday. Scott thinks we should all help other people achieve their goals and not do any harm. He said he doesn't know why he feels that way. I told him we are all given the light of Christ to reveal truth and I told him as he listens to what the spirit tells him inside he will come to know of its truthfulness.
I used the example from Elder Packer's talk The Candle of the Lord that was referenced in the missionary guide back in the day. Salt is something you have to taste yourself. You can describe it to someone else but unless they taste it, they will never know. It was awesome because Scott referred to everything after that as salt and tasting salt or rather that he'd taste the salt before becoming a member of the church. We told him that was what we wanted for him.
