I HAAATED getting up so early to leave to Salt Lake City. I ran out of eyeliner - How does that even happen???!!! Sooo I stopped at Sandy Walmart about a couple blocks from the Expo Center first. The Apprentice speaker was alright. Everyone else however was AMAZING. As I sat and listened to their talks I was struck by how ALL of them talked about God, family and integrity. Although ALL of the speakers are extremely successful financially, they ALL without exception ALSO do meaningful service.
Unfortunately along with the great speakers who included Rudy Giuliani, Larry King and Steve Forbes there were commercial talks for all of us to sign up for additional 3-day seminars. There was one seminar that they offered for free but we had to give our credit card numbers to them and they will charge these if we do not attend. I didn't feel good about that and then I said a silent prayer. I just realized it's held on General Conference weekend so I get it now. Les Brown was my favorite speaker.
All the speakers mentioned how we should improve our skills ALL the time, do the things other people are not willing to do if we want success. They talked about wealth and how the three pillars of wealth include Business, Real Estate and Stocks. I agree and I want to learn more. I want to go to all of the workshops, I just am not going to do it when I am still paying off my loan shark. My payoff on the 20th is $316. I can see the light through the tunnel at least. So I borrowed $500 to help pay my deposit plus 1st and last month's rent. It will cost me $116 to borrow that money for a month and a half.
In September my finances will FINALLY be normal again. If I had gone to Hawaii next month that would NOT have happened.
Mosiah 22
11 And it came to pass that the people of king Limhi did aby night into the wilderness with their flocks and their herds, and they went round about the land of b in the wilderness, and bent their course towards the land of Zarahemla, being led by Ammon and his brethren.
12 And they had taken all their gold, and silver, and their precious things, which they could carry, and also their provisions with them, into the wilderness; and they pursued their journey.
13 And after being many days in the wilderness they
a in the land of Zarahemla, and joined Mosiah’s people, and became his subjects.
14 And it came to pass that Mosiah
a them with joy; and he also received their
b, and also the
c which had been found by the people of Limhi.
I fell asleep reading my scriptures last night. I wish I had a CD player in my car because of all the time I spend driving. I could use that time better. I just don't want to get a CD player for this crappy car BUT I am certainly NOT ready to buy the SUV Mercedes I want.
Actually what I need to do is buy a good phone then figure out how to download good audio books on the phone and then figure out a way to use my wonderful cassette player somehow to play the phone. I'm sure George knows how to do that for me. I want the Samsung Galaxy 3G that they sell through Virgin mobile for I think $300. I can do all of that for under $500 even if I don't get my new Mercedes SUV for a couple years. I want my car to last me for as long as I remain in Logan or March 25, 2015. Even if I just put in a cheap CD player in if I need to, that would be fine. I just need to make better use of my time.
I need to buy my phone quickly and make downloading audio books to it a priority.
I'll get my Mercedes when I move and begin a new position. That's the next car I want to own. I don't want it new. I want to find a white Mercedes SUV in 2015 that is a 2011 or later.
The Hope of God's Light - Dieter F. Uctdorf
Nevertheless, spiritual light rarely comes to those who merely sit in darkness waiting for someone to flip a switch. It takes an act of faith to open our eyes to the Light of Christ. Spiritual light cannot be discerned by carnal eyes.
We don’t have to wait to cross the finish line to receive God’s blessings. In fact, the heavens begin to part and the blessings of heaven begin to distill upon us with the very first steps we take toward the light.
