I am glad I moved, HOWEVER watching the beautiful Polynesian Cultural Center float I am sad that I didn't go to Salt Lake City or march with the alumni in the parade ESPECIALLY since I'm going to miss the 50th anniversary party. It's not like I could've afforded that trip right now anyway. September I will FINALLY be looking good financially. A trip to Hawaii is just NOT something I can do right now.
Funny, AC is the REASON why I decided to move but after the first night of being here I turned it off to see if my ceiling fan in the living room and my fan in my bedroom would be enough AND it IS!!! My first electric bill is 35.00 and 33.00 of that is for changing my address. My washer and dryer work so quickly here that they don't use much electricity.
I wonder what the difference will be in the Winter. Last night I bought waffles and chicken potato chips, orange juice for Mark's dinner, some cream cheese, cool whip
I am missing marching band right now too. Kahuku High School should come to this parade. I guess the Rose Bowl and Citris Bowl parades are more exciting. I miss rifles. I haven't twirled one in a long time. I only did that 1 year before I dedicated my life to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Get paid for working part time doing something I love vs. rifles in the marching band and being forced to attend ALL the football games - that was a VERY easy choice.
Last night we had a friendshipping RS activity planned and executed by Lauresa. It was fun. Instead of speed dating this was speed friendshipping. I met a less active sister we always talk about Jessica Monk. She is Japanese and moved to Utah when she was a baby, moved to Logan. I just finished telling someone for my last meal I'd eat sushi then Jessica tells me she was a sushi chef for over 10 years.
She came with Julie. I told her she needs to come to more activities. I could've checked to see if she knew where I could buy some furikake and shitake mushrooms in Cache Valley so I can make my sushi "casserole" roasted recipe I am dying to try out.
The reporter told a dancer from the Polynesian Cultural Center that their entry was traditionally a crowd favorite. RIGHT!!! This is only the second year the alumni has marched. These commercials about PCC are making me homesick. I've been very lucky. Not only did I get a dancer job when I was in JR high school when I had to get a special permit to work, I did that for 3 1/2 years. Dancer jobs were the most coveted by BYU-Hawaii students. My dad was a friend to the Tongan instructor who asked my father if I wanted to dance. I LOVED IT!!! I would've danced for free BUT why do that when I could get paid???!!! While my paycheck sucked, students got about $20 since their money was deducted for their tuition, room and board.
Instead I paid for gas and then shopped with the rest. There was a time when I'd go shopping EVERY Saturday.
The Liahona Alumni Band ends the parade. This is the real traditional crowd favorite. They have done this for over 30 years. PCC's entry just started BUT they have the money to squirt water into the audience, have a cool float AND fly some of their dancers to march with the alumni for the parade. So I ate my enchiladas and potato chips. I found an oatmeal cookie recipe. I think if those come out well I'll take them tonight to Sam's BBQ. I want to see the fireworks but I don't really want to stay there that long.
He's providing the meat which is fantastic. Everyone else is asked to bring some dish to share. I am addicted to HGTV. My VTs were able to hang my mirror for me so it doesn't get on my nerves every time I happen to look at it. I need to buy a chair for right under my mirror. I miss my big makeup room at my fairway house. Now I have all my jewelry make-up and accessories and nowhere really to put them.
