My Random Blogging Therapy
I gave my director my thesis to read. She told me if she found any mistakes she would flag them. I told her she wouldn't find any. The dean emailed me back and said she gave my thesis to one of her colleagues to read. She said a big part of the thesis is original words and thoughts. I was shaking when I responded. I was sooo ticked. I'm very proud of myself because I calmly wrote all ideas and thoughts were mine and asked if she could indicate where she saw this. What motivated her to give me that grade is what I don't get at all. This is someone I've NEVER met before in my life. Why the hell is she tripping???!!!
She said her colleague majored in English. Does that mean he DOESN'T have a degree in English? I enjoyed telling her that her colleague would not find a SINGLE grammar mistake AND that my undergraduate degree is in English. I let her know I was getting ANOTHER bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Utah when I stopped to get a Master degree in Library Science from Emporia State University.
I enjoyed telling her that EVERY paper with the exception of any I turned in late received full credit from EVERY class taken in the MBA program. I let her know I was the political reporter for the University of Utah's newspaper the Daily Utah Chronicle. I told her I covered the legislature, Utah State Board of Regents and university administration.
I made sure she knew I've had SEVERAL writing AND editing jobs. When I first moved to Logan I wanted to work on finally finishing my second bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Utah. This led to my taking an internship at the Herald Journal where I edited the news section each Wednesday night and wrote 3 feature stories from August to December in 2010.
She also mentioned having a problem with the length and format. Stevens-Henager College lists its requirement for page length at 30 pages. I met AND EXCEEDED that requirement. The capstone coach Dr. Wheeler that SHE ASSIGNED me emailed me a sample thesis in the format she wanted my thesis to be in. I altered my thesis to comply EXACTLY with this format.
I dropped off my thesis to Sharla downstairs then went upstairs to order some of our workbooks for next module.
I made sure the email was cced to her boss-the online Director, my boss-the Logan Campus Director AND Dr. Wheeler THE CAPSTONE instructor/coach.
What is really scary to me is that she could've done the same thing to someone without my confidence or experience. Who else has she done this to and what is her motive. She doesn't know me at all so what is her problem?
My boss told me she didn't find anything wrong like I said. She asked me if I wanted to be a library director and I told her that's what I wanted to do. I was reluctant to let her read it in the first place because I didn't want her to think I was all ready to leave Stevens-Henager College BUT since my grade is an issue I had to let her read it. I KNOW she can say anything to her buddy the online director and I know they meet often. I am so grateful for the opportunity they gave me to get an MBA. I enjoy my job and I wouldn't mind working at another school in the future. She asked me if I wanted to be a library director. I told her I did and that although I loved Stevens-Henager I don't want to be a school director or in school administration.
Library Directors however are not created equal. The North Logan Library Director salary was posted as only 33,000 a year. The only director that makes more than me in the area is Logan's director Robert Shupe. I make more or the same as librarians at USU. Of course I make nowhere near what the dean of libraries makes which is around 270,000. Since USU is a public school salaries are public.USU librarians get regular raises however-something my company has NOT done despite my request. I sort of knew that from my brother. Regular raises are something you enjoy in public libraries or when you work for a government at any level. The average for federal librarians-NOT federal librarians in management is 78,000. Salt Lake County managers AND librarians enjoy regular raises. My friends that have worked over 9 years make around 67-75,000. In a system like SLCounty I would be fine just to work as a manager. I don't need to be a director over the 18 libraries. It is a good environment.
