16 And it came to pass that Alma and Amulek, Amulek havingforsaken all his gold, and silver, and his precious things, which were in the land of Ammonihah, for the word of God, he beingrejected by those who were once his friends and also by his father and his kindred;
For some reason I don't remember ever reading that Amulek was rejected by his friends, his father and his kindred. That would be horrible. When we lived in Tonga my cousin Moeaki came to live with us. His family were all Catholic and they disowned them when he joined the church. He went on to serve a mission and now lives in New Zealand with his family.
I remember he and George were in high school while I was in JR high school. My cousin Sala who finished her mission lived with us before she returned home to Provo. Sala and I were spoiled lazy butts who didn't do anything but go out to town and watch movies or go to dances. George and Moeaki would clean the house and do cooking.
I've had support my entire life. My parents paid for my mission as well as my undergraduate degree. I worked as a dancer at the Polynesian Cultural Center in High School and began the summer after Jr High School. I had to pay for gas. My dad bought me a car and paid for my insurance. I just went shopping with my checks and paid gas. I've just been blessed my entire life. I grew up in an LDS community ALL my life whether it was in Hawaii, Utah or Tonga I lived where the church had its hub. My entire family expected me to serve a mission.
When girls OR boys don't go on missions in my family it's a big deal. I didn't have to search for my testimony. I always knew God lived and that I was being raised in his church. At first I thought something was wrong with me. Now I'm grateful. Unlike Amulek I did not have to give up my family. I was not disowned like my cousin Moeaki either.
