18 And this they did, it being in their view a testimony to God, and also to men, that they never would use weapons again for the shedding of man’s blood; and this they did, vouching andcovenanting with God, that rather than shed the blood of their brethren they would give up their own lives; and rather than take away from a brother they would give unto him; and rather than spend their days in idleness they would labor abundantly with their hands.
19 And thus we see that, when these Lamanites were brought tobelieve and to know the truth, they were firm, and would suffer even unto death rather than commit sin; and thus we see that they buried their weapons of peace, or they buried the weapons of war, for peace.
30 And thus we can plainly discern, that after a people have been once enlightened by the Spirit of God, and have had greatknowledge of things pertaining to righteousness, and then havefallen away into sin and transgression, they become morehardened, and thus their state becomes worse than though they had never known these things.
I love the attitude of the newly repented and converted Lamanites. They would rather die than shed blood, they would give instead of taking from someone and would work instead of being idle. I feel so lazy when I look at Curtis' blog. Curtis works as a designer AND then works at his family farm. His sister seems to work on the farm too which is very impressive to me. That is awesome. I've never really worked outside doing anything. Women are supposed to work inside the house in the Tongan culture. I took advantage of this and I let my dad do his male chauvinist thing because I didn't want to work in the yard. What I really wanted to do was work for my father doing ANY type of construction BUUUT he refused thanks to his chauvinist thing, my brother HAAATED building rock walls BUUUT he got paid very well to build those rock walls.
I did have an awesome job BUUUT it didn't pay as well as the union wages my brother earned. I did get tan from the sun for dancing in the canoe pageant at the Polynesian Cultural Center. That was so much fun and I would've done it for free. Of course it was nice to get money to shop. I used to go shopping EVERY week then. You'd think I wouldn't like it now. I still looove it. Shopping NEVER gets old. I can shop ANYWHERE - DI, Walmart and even the ridiculously expensive boutiques and stores in Waikiki - Chanel, Laura Ashley, Louis Vuitton. I remember my first pair of Louis pumps. They were black patent leather and they lasted forever. EVERYTHING goes on sale sooner or later at EVERY store.
I weeded someone's garden for the first time on my mission. They gave me gloves to do that but I still remember getting my hands all scratched up even with the gloves. I also had to take out plants for a service project once on temple square when I was in the Tongan singles ward I attended in South Jordan. It was so hot and I kept wondering what the hell I was doing away from my AC. Elder L. Tom Perry came out to talk to us that day. That's when I thought... OK this is worth the heat. I remember painting someone's porch in my BYU-Hawaii student ward when they still had student wards. That ended in a paint fight and was a lot of fun. There is always a nice breeze in Hawaii however. It gets so hot here. I wonder what they do now and if they still have student wards at BYU-Hawaii.
Wow, let me die instead of committing sin. Also people that are once righteous are subject to deeper sin and wickedness. So in this case anyway ignorance is bliss.
