Tonight was great as ALWAYS-Bro. Salmond and I must've been on the same wave-length today. We talked about Cain and what he was called in the Pearl of Great Price or Man of Mahan-Mahan is the mind or intellect. He talked about when they fired a bunch of English professors from BYU in the 90s for praying to Mother in Heaven-YES then even did this. Actually they were MOSTLY English professors. I think there was one history professor. Bro. Salmond talked about how in Cache Valley there are apostate LDS groups who use our manuals BUT DON'T accept the prophet or the brethren. He said in particular Boyd K. Packer is a target. I remember Sunstone Magazine would have cartoons of him as a bear.
He brought all of this up because we were talking about Cain and how the mind without the heart is wrong. He said there are three groups who wish for Elder Packer's demise namely gays, feminists and "intellectuals" It is so hard to believe that those professors in the 90s took it as far as they did. I remember that. BYU's feminist group held a candle-light vigil for them. SERIOUSLY-these individuals thought nothing was wrong with changing fundamental church practice AND thought they'd remain in good standing with BYU, an institution owned and funded by the church. I told Bro. Salmond I'm going to work at the temple because of his class. He said I made his night.
I hurried home to try to find a recording of the debate. I just have snippets. The entire debate will probably be available tomorrow. Obama at least looked alive tonight. Both were pretty strong at arguing with each other and trying to call each other liars without actually saying they were. Both are master politicians who seemed to find every opportunity to stay on message-for Obama it was to remind voters of the 47% statement, and to try to depict Romney as out-of-touch rich guy. Romney kept the focus on how nothing's been done to help the economy, how we are worse than we once were.
