Great Morning!!!

My laundry's in control AND I went to bed at midnight, got up at 6am, did Zumba, showered, went to the store AND now I'm at work!!! Life is such a blessing. We all have sooo many opportunities. I love Tuesdays because it's my institute day. I NEVER thought I'd ever love institute this much. There's only one religion class I really enjoyed. It was The Mormon Experience taught by Grant Underwood. We read a lot of articles from the LDS BUT non-church affiliated journal Dialogue and Sunstone Magazine. While many of these were interesting, these self-proclaimed Mormon intellectuals seemed to look for ways to justify their moderate and selective adherence to the principles of the gospel. A lot of these  people were from academia and had the attitude that they would "tolerate" the brethren. Many BYU professors were excommunicated from the church and some women even refused to wear certain articles of clothing they felt were demeaning in the temple. It is difficult to even imagine the gall and degree of pride that could cause something like this.

This is what my first friend David and I had in common. We didn't like this or agree with it. We had many conversations about this. I had fun arguing against most of the points the Mormon intellectuals loved harping on in class. George was in school with me then. One of my classmates in the Mormon Experience told George I'm the most opinionated person  he knew and that he could tell I'm an English major. George further explained to me that English majors thought they knew everything and that I fit that perfectly. I just told him computer majors were the real nerds and that I was usually right. I can't help it if all the English majors on campus just happened to be amazing!!!

I guess that's one of the reasons why it is weird to me that my current David friend likes performing arts-plays, musicals, opera, ballet. My English major friends enjoyed  that stuff BUT they also enjoyed poetry, novels, Shakespeare. My brother DID NOT. My dad sent him to BYU in Provo to get him away from this girl we didn't like that he was dating. He didn't like the Y at all. It's VERY ironic that he's living in Provo now. We picked him up from the airport when he finally convinced my family he HATED it there. I'm glad we got rid of that girl. My mother and I had tickets that night to a play at the Manoa Valley Playhouse near UH. My mom offered to buy him a ticket. Instead he had us drop him off at Gold's Gym downtown. We picked him up there when we were done.

I shouldn' t assume things although I don't think David reads all that much besides his schoolwork. I just always considered it a package deal-if you like musicals you like literature, poetry, ballet. He also likes outdoor stuff. That in my head doesn't coincide with opera and ballet.

I hope I can get David, Mindie AND our group to catch the vision of fhe. If David and Mindie weren't the leaders, I doubt they'd even attend. To me it is preparation for when I have my own family someday. Even when I was being a slacker I always knew it was important. Actually I think it translates into everything. If you don't plan on doing something well, why bother? I don't think they believe it's important. I think it is important to do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING well.

I'm not real excited about the Mid-singles conference but I am going to go and TRY.
