My Random Blogging Therapy
I got up at 10am or 2 hours ago. I'm just going to clean, work on my thesis and eat!!! Looove my weekends!!!
I keep getting family home evening ideas which is FABULOUS!!! The first Monday is a combined activity organized by the ward. The 3rd is also combined. Sooo... ONLY 2 dates need to be planned each month with the occasional 3rd Monday thrown in. They can be elaborate WITHOUT costing any money.
For our second individual FHE I was thinking of a movie night at David's house with the killer movie room downstairs. Everyone should get the chance to be introduced to Hawaiian/Japanese popcorn or hot buttered popcorn with mochi crunch and furikake. I own the Phantom of the Opera DVD and I still have my masquerade mask somewhere. I'm sure I can get my friends to wear ball gowns or formal stuff. Maybe David owns a tuxedo. I don't know how sold on that he'll be. BUT it won't cost ANYTHING. I can take care of the Japanese popcorn and I like those popcorn containers at the dollar store. I wouldn't mind owning a bunch especially since it's CHEAP!!!
David has a flair for the dramatic so I'm hoping he'll get into it. He and Mindie don't seem like the enthusiastic types BUT IF I can convince them, we can convince others to join in. I know I can get Krista to dress up. I'm also going to invite Mikako to everything especially since she's out of our ward now and doesn't get the chance to socialize as much. If we can spiritually rock our lesson ALL the time it'll work. I'm going to get Jaylene to attend everything too. That'll be at least 6 of us. I'll invite Travis from school to everything too. It'll be weird to fellowship him with an older crowd but it'll be alright.
I was thinking of throwing a senior citizen prom/dance thing like I saw on some LDS commercial once in November. I hope they have a sound system but I can always borrow my brother's if I have to do that. Mikako works at Sunshine Terrace nursing home and I'm sure I can arrange it with her. We need to especially get the guys to commit to showing up since I think there are a lot more senior women than men. If it's successful we can start to do it yearly and just make it bigger, sponsors will be VERY easy to solicit for this. I need to get this approved NOW!!! I'm not sure what else we can do in November-maybe something outdoors to satisfy those outdoorsy types. I can grit my teeth and bear it if I have to do that. Matt certainly made me do that enough times. Maybe football season is still on then. I can surely get tickets from all those Poly boys and then my friend Rich's sister is married to one of the assistant coaches. Those are never held on Mondays so that may not work. I just had another idea. I always wanted Matt and I to have an fhe at an observatory. With ALL the USU connections we have I'm sure SOMEONE knows someone that can make this happen OR I can just meet someone there and figure out what we need to do. I guess I will have to get to know Poly boy Rudy better. He's Helene's friend. I remember meeting him when I first attended a USU ward with Tiffany. He annoyed me very much when I first met him because he told me there was nooo way I was Polynesian. BUUUT I AM Polynesian and that is supposed to make us buddies automatically. I can use the Poly sister thing to get him to attend ALL our fhes from now on. So I like the Sunshine Terrace Prom thing and the Observatory for November.
In December we have Caroling and The Nutcracker. We need to tell people about the Nutcracker now since it's going to cost money. For one or both of those activities, I can host people at my house for hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls when we go caroling and then for a cookie/candy buffet after the Nutcracker. I can also introduce the group to musubi. It is easy to make and I know people will like it. I can still provide the stuff if my house is too small since we'll have lots of people attending then!!! I'm definitely making sure we visit my nonmember friends homes where we can sing for them AND take them cookies
I think when Matt and I did this our most successful fhe was our sushi-making party. We can do that anytime when we run out of ideas. I have a bamboo mat to form the rolls and Mikako has one too. She borrowed 2 from her friends when we did it. Those aren't very expensive. I can pick a couple up at one of the Asian stores the next time I'm in SLC. As we get to know people in our group better, having them share their talents will be great. Additional activities can be planned around them. When Tad Sorensen was in our group he volunteered to make ALL of us dinner at his house before we ALL attended a USU basketball game. He had free tickets because he works for USU's something.
I haven't heard from either Mindie OR David after emailing them so I'm just going to print some flyers and invitations and talk to them Sunday to get stuff approved. I hope I can sell them on my ideas. My personal goal is to have at least 20 people regularly attending. I want the activity AND the lesson to be amazing. When nonmembers attend I want the spirit to be so strong it knocks them out AND have so much fun that they want to be part of it.
