My Random Blogging Therapy
I hope this larger dose of Metformin kicks my blood sugar down and that working out and eating better will keep it there as I slowly wean myself from the pills. Carline posted something about taking coconut oil orally for diabetes. Supposedly it lowers your blood sugar. It makes me think Tonga is sitting on a goldmine. There was sooo much coconut oil everywhere. I miss fresh coconut juice. Little boys would husk them and sell them to people for .10 a piece. That was a long time ago. I'm sure it's a lot more now BUUUT we would put them in the fridge. They were delicious. The coconut water sold all over the place here is very trendy but doesn't even come close to how it's supposed to taste. Fresh and delicious.
Coconut milk is when the meat is chopped up then strained. This stuff is used in EVERYTHING in Tonga. I always wondered why our haka didn't taste right and now I know it's because we don't season it with coconut cream. I'm pretty sure it's why Tongans love Best Foods mayo with everything. I hate Miracle Whip and I know it's thanks to my father. EVERYTHING is either boiled in it or prepared with it and it is scrumptious. Having my Hawaiian/Chinese/White mother who was raised by a Hawaiian/Chinese mother means while I appreciate Tongan food ONCE in awhile I can't eat it ALL the time. It's why I never learned how to make real casseroles. These dishes were limited to hamburger helper. Rice, rice, rice with everything. I can't believe I can't have any for awhile.
In Hawaii we had rice for EVERY meal. Rice, corned beef hash and sunny side eggs were a common breakfast on the weekends. My brother and I loved to make pancakes too. In Tonga they have dinner foods for breakfast. My mother used to bake us cookies EVERY day after school. I remember we had a sugar bowl on the table all the time. This was for cornflakes. We usually cut bananas and sprinkled sugar on our cereal before pouring milk all over it. Times sure have changed. I can't imagine anyone having a sugar bowl now although I think they were mainly for coffee drinkers.
My grandparents on my mother's side drank coffee AND alcohol so it's not surprising she thought we needed a sugar bowl on the table with our salt, pepper and shoyu. If we had just provided my father with lots of his native dishes he would not have had the health problems he did.
2 Nephi 23
22 And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces; and her time is near to come, and her day shall not be prolonged. For I will destroy her speedily; yea, for I will be merciful unto my people, but the wicked shall perish.
This chapter seems like a mystical magical place ravaged by war and destruction and left desolate with just animals in the deserted structures.
The Moral Force of Women - D. Todd Christofferson
A woman’s moral influence is nowhere more powerfully felt or more beneficially employed than in the home. There is no better setting for rearing the rising generation than the traditional family, where a father and a mother work in harmony to provide for, teach, and nurture their children. Where this ideal does not exist, people strive to duplicate its benefits as best they can in their particular circumstances.
Most sacred is a woman’s role in the creation of life. We know that our physical bodies have a divine origin4 and that we must experience both a physical birth and a spiritual rebirth to reach the highest realms in God’s celestial kingdom.5 Thus, women play an integral part (sometimes at the risk of their own lives) in God’s work and glory “to bring to pass theimmortality and eternal life of man.”6 As grandmothers, mothers, and role models, women have been the guardians of the wellspring of life, teaching each generation the importance of sexual purity—of chastity before marriage and fidelity within marriage. In this way, they have been a civilizing influence in society; they have brought out the best in men; they have perpetuated wholesome environments in which to raise secure and healthy children.
This is not fair or right. We do not diminish the value of what women or men achieve in any worthy endeavor or career—we all benefit from those achievements—but we still recognize there is not a higher good than motherhood and fatherhood in marriage. There is no superior career, and no amount of money, authority, or public acclaim can exceed the ultimate rewards of family. Whatever else a woman may accomplish, her moral influence is no more optimally employed than here.
And this is the main reason why I need to conquer this diabetes. I want to have children. I just read about a 58-year-old Latin woman having a surrogate child for her 32-year-old daughter who can't conceive. If she was White American I don't think this would've happened. It would be considered a risk instead of a charitable act. The more I read about women who are older having children the better I feel. I'm not an idiot however. I'm going to do everything in my power to be at my optimal health so I can have a healthy pregnancy. I am probably susceptible to gestational pregnancy which is diabetes just during pregnancy, apparently a common condition.
If I can have a pregnancy without that complication that is even better. I just bought coconut oil from Walmart last night along with my veggies and snacks. I'm going to test my blood sugar at 10:30am. Coconut flour is supposed to be awesome too. It doesn't spike your blood sugar either. Jorge Cruise posted a recipe for fried tomatoes using the flour as a batter with egg then frying it in AGAIN coconut oil. I'm trying the coconut oil as long as it lasts me. I had a teaspoon with my morning meal. I'll take one every other meal or at 7am, 4pm and 7pm. 747!!! I ate at 7:20 this morning which is why I'm waiting until 10:30 to test my blood sugar. PLEASE BE DOWN!!!
I hope this works. That would be amazing. I'm also pulling out my juicer tonight to make my celery/carrot/spinach/green apple juice recipe from Death to Diabetes. I love my avocados and Greek yogurt. I will continue to have 1 a day. The idea of not having meat or dairy for 90 days is not attractive to me. I don't doubt the healing properties of veggies. I just think it's important to have protein with every meal especially if you're working out. It's what bodybuilders do and they have the best physiques.
